About Us

The official page of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. We provide a refuge to animals in need, offering a second chance to find a forever home. In 2011, our shelter and veterinary hospital cared for more than 10,000 animals.

Our mission is to provide a loving refuge for animals who are lost, abandoned or abused. We provide compassionate care in a safe warm clean environment, reuniting animals with their families, while offering a second chance to find a forever home through our adoptions program. We strive to eliminate all forms of animal suffering caused by overpopulation, neglect, ignorance and abuse. We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

We rely on public and corporate donations and fundraising campaigns to support our humane operations. The generosity of the community we serve helps us support the animals in our care and allows us to offer a wide range of programs and services. These services include cruelty investigations, humane education, assisting distressed and abused animals (domestic and wild), pet food bank, and our owned animal and feral spay and neuter programs.
